We are called to abandon everything to follow Jesus

The basis of the Narrow Way that leads to God is to abandon everything in this world and to devote oneself fully to the Lord. This is what the members of the early Church did, starting with the apostles:

Matthew 4:18 And Jesus, walking along the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon, called Peter, and Andrew, his brother, casting their nets into the sea, for they were fishermen. 19 And he said to them, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. 20 And they immediately left their nets and followed him. 21 And when he had gone on from there, he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a boat, with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them. 22 And they immediately left their boat and their father and followed him.

The same time in Luke 5:11 And when they had brought their boats on board, they left everything and followed him.

Luke 5:27 And after these things he went out, and saw a tax collector named Levi sitting at the tax office; 28 And he said unto him, Follow me. And he, leaving all, arose and followed him.

And this is what we must do:

Matthew 10:37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me: 38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth me, is not worthy of me. 39 He that keepeth his life shall lose it: but he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.

Matthew 16:24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone wishes to come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 25 For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. 26 For what good will it do a man to gain the whole world if he loses his own soul? Or what shall a man give for his soul?

Mark 10:21 And Jesus looked upon him, and loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: Go, sell all that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: after that come, follow me, taking up the cross.

This is God's call to all believers, but unfortunately, today and for generations, believers have been mixed up with the world and lead a double life; they are double-hearted, whereas God asks us to offer our whole selves to him, to be whole to him, to be ONE with him.

The early Church was accompanied by the Power of God, but today we have fallen away from this Power, because we are far from living like the first Christians. After the time of the apostles, the Church compromised with the world and committed adultery (unfaithfulness) to God. Because of the persecution, the Church agreed to compromise, and the devil used a great cunning, he made the system of this world accept a part of the Christian faith, and in exchange the Church had to accept a part of the system, and thus compromise.

Where Satan was very cunning is that he managed to make the believers believe that it was God who brought peace. But the members of the Church had not retained the teaching of the Lord and the apostles. Jesus had said that he gives us his peace, but that we must not be troubled, seduced, for he does not give the peace that the world gives. He had warned that we would be persecuted for his Name, and the apostles did the same, they did not stop warning the believers, even telling them that after their departure wolves will come and devour the sheep.

To make a long story short, the Church was turned away from the Truth a long time ago, and since then it has been asleep (spiritually dead). And that is why there must be a revival in the last days. This revival will take place precisely because believers will have enough faith to abandon everything in this world in order to follow the Lord in the unity of faith, and then the Church will regain the Power that the first Christians had.

The call to forsake all (which is the basis of our call), is accompanied by promises, for as we know God blesses all those who obey Him by faith. Among these promises, there is one that (if we have faith) should remove any worries we may have about giving up everything to follow the Lord: God promises to provide for all our needs, provided we seek the Kingdom of God and His righteousness; that is why it is written :

Mark 10:28 Then Peter began to say unto him, Behold, we have left all, and followed thee. 29 And Jesus answered, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or fields, for my sake, and for the gospel's, 30 Who do not receive a hundred times as much already in this world, houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come, eternal life.

Matthew 6:24 No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will hold to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. 25 Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat and what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air; for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more than they? 27 And who among you is it that by his care can add a cubit to his height? 28 And as for the garment, why are you concerned about it? See how the lilies of the field grow; they do not work or spin. 29 But I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of them. 30 If then God so clothes the grass of the field, which is today, and tomorrow will be thrown into the oven, will he not much rather clothe you, O ye of little faith? 31 Be not troubled then, saying: 32 For it is the Gentiles who are looking for all these things; and your heavenly Father knows that you have need of all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you above. 34 So do not be anxious about tomorrow; for tomorrow will have to worry about its own things. Each day has its own punishment.

Luke 12:32 Do not be afraid, little flock; for it has pleased your Father to give you the kingdom. 33 Sell what you have, and give it away for alms; make for yourselves purses that will not wear out, and treasures in heaven that will never fail, where thieves will not come, and where the moth will not spoil. 34 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

Do we really have faith in Jesus Christ? We can only prove it by trusting Him fully, not worrying about anything, and answering His call (obedience).

Luke 9:57 And it came to pass, as they went on their way, that a certain man said unto him, I will follow thee, Lord, whithersoever thou goest. 58 But Jesus said unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests: but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head. 59 And he said unto another, Follow me. 60 Jesus said to him, 'Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God. 61 Another said to him, 'I will follow you, Lord, but let me first take leave of those who are in my house. 62 But Jesus said to him, 'He who puts his hand to the plough and looks behind him is of no use to the kingdom of God.
